Vice President, Kashim Shettima |
In a news report dated October 5th, Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed his strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing that Tinubu has the best interests of Nigeria at heart. Shettima conveyed this endorsement during a meeting with the board and management of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), led by its Chairman, Maj Gen Paul Tarfa. The purpose of the meeting was to present the North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan (NESDMP) to Vice President Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Vice President Shettima stated, "The President means well for the nation. I have seen the soul of Bola Tinubu; I will not stop saying that." He also assured the group that the North East Development Strategy and Plan document would reach the managing director of the NEDC within 48 hours.
Recalling a previous meeting with the NEDC board and management, where they presented a 10-year master plan for the region's development on October 4th, Shettima emphasized the importance of transparent leadership. He highlighted that a significant portion of the NEDC's budgeted funds, around 80%, comes from multilateral agencies. Shettima stressed the necessity of having competent and corruption-free leadership to secure these funds from international agencies.
Furthermore, Vice President Shettima outlined three key areas where he encouraged tangible investments: electric vehicle technology, agriculture (including irrigation technology), and digital education. He emphasized that Nigeria's common challenges are poverty, insecurity, and destitution, transcending ethnicity or religion. Shettima called for unity in addressing these shared issues.
