- Currents in the Sugar market and industry sector in the country have seen a rapid reversal recently. As the festive season is about to start in the country, market experts were hoping for an increase in seasonal demand in the sugar market. Market prices were showing firmness. The current price in Navi Mumbai sugar market was around Rs.3650 to 3725 per kg and the price of good goods was around Rs.3760 to 3860. The market prices of wheat, rice, pulses, pulses, tomatoes, onions etc. have gone up in the country and various steps have been taken by the government to control the prices of essential commodities. At that time, the fear that the government will put restrictions on the export of sugar was also seen in the market recently. After the government recently banned the export of rice, such fear spread in the sugar market. However, a statement was recently made by the central government that the supply of sugar in the country is satisfactory and people need not panic. According to the government, at the end of July, the stock of sugar in the country is 108 lakh tonnes.

Even after diverting 43 lakh tonnes to ethanol production in the country, the production of sugar has increased to 330 lakh tonnes, the government said. The government has, however, reduced the quota of sugar sold by free sale mills for August to 23 lakh 50 thousand tonnes less than July by 50 thousand tonnes. Which was given in July of 24 lakh tonnes. However, the government also gave permission to the mills to sell the mill quota of July till August 15. As a result of heavy rainfall in July, the stock of mills has remained around one and a half to two lakh tonnes of mills due to the effect on the movement of goods and the informants were showing that this amount will be available in August.

According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association, the production of sugar in the country is likely to be 328 lakh tonnes in the current sugar season of 2022-23. While the annual demand of sugar in the country is 275 lakh tons. In the season of 2021-22, the production of sugar in the country was 357 to 358 lakh tonnes, meanwhile, the new sugar season of 2023-24 in the country is about to start from October and in this new season, there is a possibility of increasing diversion towards the production of ethanol and due to this, the production of sugar will decrease to that extent. But the government said to this question that the production and supply of sugar is likely to be maintained. Government sources said that it would be too early to make an estimate about this now that the new season is about to start from October. In the new season, the production of sugar in the country will decrease by 316 to 317 lakh tons, according to government sources, it is too early to make such a prediction. The theory of decline in sugar production based on

However, according to the informants, ethanol is produced through molasses or sugar cane juice and syrup and grains. Meanwhile, as the crushing process continued till late in some sugar mills in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, sources were also pointing to the possibility of an increase in the production figures for the 2022-23 sugar season.

Meanwhile, the area under sugarcane cultivation in the country has increased to 59 lakh 81 thousand hectares by the end of June this year, which was recorded at 59 lakh 7 thousand hectares in this period last year. The area under sugarcane cultivation has increased in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. There was speculation in the market that the restrictions on sugar exports would continue to be raised further.
