Dirty political accusations instead of concern for women's safety

- In any civilized society women are oppressed in public, it is a matter of drowning, it means that the state is under jungle rule.

- These words and behavior of our leaders show their insensitivity. This is proof that our leaders do not think of any issue beyond political gain and loss. Be it Manipur or Bengal, the only reason why no action is taken despite the knowledge of atrocities on women is because the people of the ruling party are complicit or it is a vote bank issue. It is also a matter of shame for the public that we elect and send people who think vote bank is more important than the safety of women.

A video of two Women being gang-raped and paraded naked in Manipur has left the entire country stunned, now a similar incident has come to light in West Bengal. This incident took place in West Bengal's Malda district on July 19. In a video posted by BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya, a mob of women surround and beat two women, pull their hair, hit them with slippers and tear their clothes and strip them half-naked.

According to Malviya, the victims of the incident in Pakua Hat area of Bamangola police station in Malda district are tribal women. When these women were being beaten and their clothes were being torn by other women, the police stood as silent spectators. Union Minister Smriti Irani has claimed that these two women are Dalits.

Between these two incidents, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expelled his own minister Rajendra Gudha for criticizing the highest number of rape cases against women in Rajasthan. Taking a swipe at his own government in the Assembly, Gudha said that the Congress leader talks about Manipur but before that he needs to introspect on the issue of women's safety in Rajasthan. The Congress leadership did not like Gudha's advice and his ministership was lost.

These three things are serious and cause concern about the safety of women in the country but unfortunately no one cares about the issue. Gudha rightly said that Congress should worry about the situation in its own state before talking about other states.

This applies to every party and every party needs to protect itself. Instead, political recriminations have gone into full swing. Instead of thinking about why all the political parties themselves cannot protect women, they are bent on proving that the opposition is too.

In response to the video of the Manipur incident going viral, the BJP has made the West Bengal video viral. BJP has started a campaign to prove that women are not safe in Mamata Banerjee's rule and that what is happening in Manipur is also happening elsewhere but it is silent on the issue of why its own government could not protect women and did not even register a complaint for two and a half months.

Loket Chatterjee, an actress-turned-MP in West Bengal, wept profusely while talking about the brutality of the BJP's female candidate. It rained on Mamata but did not talk about the failure of Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh. Union Minister Anurag Thakur also asked why the Gandhi-Nehru family is not talking about the issue of Bengal and Rajasthan? The same Thakur is not ready to say anything about the fact that the BJP leadership was silent for two and a half months regarding the incident in Manipur.

The same is the case with other party leaders. Opposition leaders including Congress and Trinamool are bashing the BJP for the Manipur incident but are silent on the issue of Bengal and Rajasthan. Regarding the incident in Malda, Bengal Minister Shashi Panja has made such an absurd defense that women killed two women in the incident of theft in the market in Malda but the police reached the spot and saved them. A case has been registered against the women who took the law into their hands and investigations are underway. This defense is not acceptable as it can be seen in the video that the women's clothes have been torn and they have been made semi-naked. If women have stolen, the police should be called and handed over. Instead, how can they be naked by hitting them in public? The national leadership of the Congress has not uttered a single word on the fact that the highest number of rape cases have been reported in Rajasthan.

These words and behavior of our leaders show their insensitivity.

In any civilized society women are oppressed in public is said to be drowning in shame. If such an incident happens, it means that there is jungle rule in the state and there is no law and order.

Actually, we should sit and worry about how to change this situation, but instead politicians make accusations. No one can match our leaders in showing the shamelessness of keeping quiet about their own failures and the arrogance of gloating over the failures of others.

- Naked parade in the BJP women's booth in Bengal?

In the recently held local Swaraj elections in West Bengal, there has also been an issue of Trinamool Congress workers sexually assaulting a BJP woman candidate and tearing her clothes. The incident took place in Howrah on July 8, when polling was going on in Bengal.

The woman alleged that the Trinamool Congress workers grabbed her by the hair and pushed her down the stairs. His clothes were also torn. When her husband intervened and confronted her, the woman ran to a nearby house. After the people of the house gave him clothes, he could cover his dignity. The woman claims that if not for her husband, she would have been raped in public.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee has alleged that this woman candidate was stripped naked inside the booth and was paraded naked. Chatterjee alleged that on July 11, in Domjur, Howrah, another BJP woman candidate was forced to strip naked at gunpoint.

Bengal Police Chief Manoj Malviya claims that the woman BJP candidate had sent a complaint via e-mail on July 13 but no evidence was found. Central forces were present during the polling and they also did not report any such incident.

- 50 percent of rape cases in four states

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics, 3,0016 cases of rape were reported in India in 2021. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are the top four states in the country for rape cases. In 2012, 633 cases of rape were reported in Rajasthan, 2947 in Madhya Pradesh, 2845 in Uttar Pradesh and 2496 in Maharashtra. It means that almost 50 percent of the rape cases reported in the country have been reported in these four states. 21 percent cases have been reported in Rajasthan alone.

In Rajasthan, the issue has become politically heated as Ashok Gehlot government minister Rajendra Gudha raised the issue of increasing cases of atrocities on women in Rajasthan in the assembly. Gudha advised that Congress should look at what is happening in Rajasthan instead of Manipur when the Congress is fussing over the issue of Manipur. Following this, Gehlot has expelled Gudha from the cabinet.

Gehlot also defended that the number of cases is high due to strict instructions to register every rape complaint in Rajasthan, but 60 percent of rapes are later proven false. The police cannot bring evidence so the accused goes free. It doesn't mean the case is wrong but politicians can say whatever they want.
