Biden's fitness issue will affect the presidential election

- World Window

- Once given examples of the fitness of American presidents, but Joe Biden's fitness has become an issue in America as he falls repeatedly.

The 2020 US election was historic. If either of Trump-Biden wins, they would have to register the record of the oldest President in their name. Trump's age was more than 73 years in 2020. Biden was 77 years old. Before that, the record for the oldest president in terms of age was held by Ronald Reagan. Reagan became president 70 years ago. When Trump first became president in 2016, he had equaled Reagan in terms of age.

American voters elected 77-year-old Biden as president for the first time in American political history, handing over the reins to a leader over 75 years of age. At that time, many American political commentators also expressed concern that the Fitness of either of the two would become an issue. Trump is four years younger than Biden and is also considered fitter than Biden. When he became president, Biden also seemed very fit.

Since fitness was not an issue in the beginning, Biden's media manager ran news about how fit Biden is and how much exercise he does. There were reports like 'young even at 78', 'workout five days a week', 'does treadmill with the enthusiasm of youth'. It is true that Biden works out. Yet age does the work of age. The age that was visible when he became president at the age of 78 has now started to appear in these three years. The burden of the presidency, frequent trips, constant political activity - due to all this, Biden has suddenly started to look four-five years thinner in three years, and now the leaders of the opposition Republican Party, especially Trump and his supporters, are making a big issue of Biden's physical and mental fitness.

Now there is a possibility that there will be an election battle between Trump and Biden again in 2024. In addition to Biden from Biden's Democratic Party, John F. Kennedy's nephews Robert Kennedy and Mariana Williams have filed for candidacy, but Biden is likely to receive the Democratic Party's bid. On the other hand, there are ten candidates from the Republican Party including Trump, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis. In all of them, politically, in terms of supporters, Trump has more weight. In such a situation, for the first time there will be a clash between 78-year-old Trump and 81-year-old Biden, and it will be the first time in the history of America that two candidates who are more than 75 years old are fighting.

Trump supporters are already making it a big issue of the election by creating memes of Biden frequently walking, bumping heads in helicopters, missing the point while giving a speech or talking. If the issue of Biden not being physically-mentally fit for a second term really gets going, it will be difficult to win a second term. American citizens value fitness above all else. American citizens absolutely do not like their leaders to collapse in public like this. It makes the authority look weak. It makes the American presidency look weak - citizens don't run it. The latest survey proves it.

The political poll asked if Biden's mental-physical fitness will affect the presidential election? 62 percent of Americans opined: Yes, Biden's fitness is a big issue. Party-wise identification of the participants in the survey was also done. Eighty-four percent of Republican-leaning voters rated Biden's physical and mental fitness as a concern. 38 percent of Biden's Democratic Party members believe that Biden is unfit for a second term as president.

The public opinion was the same for Trump. Will 77-year-old Trump be fit to hold the presidency for four years after 2024? In response to such a survey, 51 percent people said: Trump may seem fit now, but his fitness will not be maintained for four years. That is why they do not want to see him in the presidency.

Leaders of the Democratic Party have also started muttering about the physical-mental fitness of the President. Hillary Clinton said in an interview last week that people have the right to decide about Biden's fitness. There is nothing wrong if people think how physically and mentally capable the supreme leader of the country is. The political poll also surveyed Democratic Party leaders. Four out of 10 leaders believe that Biden's fitness issue will affect the 2024 election and could cost him the presidency.

Well, American presidents were known around the world for their fitness and pre-retirement presidency. American leaders used to give examples like that. George Washington himself became president at 57 and retired at 65.

Except for one or two presidents in the early years, hardly anyone's first term began after 60 years. The last two presidents - Trump and Biden became president at the age of 70 or more, but before that, Obama was president for 47 years and retired after completing both terms at 55 years. So George Bush became president at 54 years and retired at 62 years. Bill Clinton became president in 46 years and completed both terms in 54 years. Reagan and Bush Sr. were presidents for 69 and 64 years respectively. Before that, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Roosevelt - all these presidents became presidents before retirement age and retired at about the same age as civil servants, 60-62.

In short, age matters for American citizens. They don't like the older leaders becoming all-powerful. As senators, 80-year-old leaders are elected, but when it comes to making president, physical and mental fitness plays an important role. It remains to be seen how effective this issue will be in the 2024 elections.
