Wrestlers stepping into the political ring: face-to-face recriminations

- Brijbhushan is ready to be hanged if the charge is proved

- Occasional

- By the time the government started reconciliation efforts, the opposition and Kisan leaders had hijacked the movement

The agitating Wrestlers seem to be caught in their own tracks. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, who is being demanded to be jailed, publicly says that if even a single charge against me is proved, I will hang myself. It is not possible to say how many rounds the movement of wrestlers will be completed. The central government is behind the scenes trying to broker a compromise, but a mastermind is believed to be urging the wrestlers to continue the movement in Yenken style. People's interest is gradually waning from the movement activities.

It is natural that the people of the country get emotional when they see the wrestlers standing for hours on the ghat to throw their medals in the river Ganga, but then suddenly changing their program and giving an ultimatum of five days shows that these people are running under the guidance of some political figures. The agitation started by the wrestlers for the arrest of the president of the Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has become political and now it cannot have much impact on the minds of the people. People are also beginning to believe that there are other factors at the heart of the movement besides the alleged sexual exploitation.

For the central government, the wrestlers' movement is like a lump stuck in the neck. By the time the government started reconciliation efforts, the opposition and Kisan leaders had hijacked the movement. The opposition has started to believe that the longer the movement goes on, the more the image of the Modi government will be damaged.

Wrestlers tried to grab the country's attention by staging a protest march on the day of the inauguration of the new parliament, but were arrested and whisked away by the police. This arrest was also made an issue, but the wrestlers could no longer get public support. Political commentators believe that behind the wrestlers who made a fuss at the inauguration of the new parliament, the opposition party people are doing the dirty work. Giving an ultimatum to the government by handing over the medal to farmer leader Naresh Tikait is proving to be a big mistake of the wrestlers. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also says that the police have taken action and investigations are on. At first glance, it seems that even when the women wrestlers who are agitating against the hoti hai-chalti hai policy of the government make a tearful presentation, no representative of the central government comes forward to console them and remains silent.

But there is another side of the coin to be understood here. The women wrestlers, who once ended the movement, started the movement again. According to his submission and as per the order of the court, an FIR has been lodged against Brijbhushan under the POSCO Act. The matter is under investigation. If there is any fact in this investigation, Brijbhushan will be arrested. In this case, no female wrestler has registered any details about which country or in which hotel she was molested. Their only demand is that Brijbhushan be arrested and put in jail. No one has an answer to the question of what is the role of political figures in sports when such disputes arise, but politicians are in charge of many sports federations. The unfortunate thing is that these people enjoy the positions they get for fifteen years. In very few cases there have been agitations against Brijbhushan.

There is a controversy that crores of tax payers have been used to prepare the wrestlers, but this is proving to be baseless, as these are the same wrestlers who have made the country proud.

Allegations of sexual harassment are serious. Government is promoting women in various ways. He should set an example in the society by taking immediate action against proven allegations of sexual harassment. Now India has become the most populous country, but India is far behind in Olympics. It should not be forgotten that India has done well in wrestling. The wrestlers wanted to win the war by keeping the opposition leaders together in the movement, but they are losing one stake after another in the ring of politics.
