Talking about Delhi: Aggressive attitude of the Center on the issue of same-sex marriages

New Delhi: The aggressive stance taken by the central government in the ongoing hearing on the recognition of same-sex marriages in the Supreme Court has created a surprise. The Modi government has also questioned the right of the Supreme Court to rule on this issue by adopting a stance that same-sex marriages should not be recognized under any circumstances.

According to constitutional experts, the Supreme Court has the power to interpret any constitutional provision. It is surprising that the BJP government is acting without knowing this. Parliament has the power to change the interpretation of the Supreme Court. BJP government should use it.

According to him, the Centre's argument of Indian tradition is not valid as the laws are not made keeping in mind the tradition. The Centre's argument is that the legal recognition of same-sex marriages will create complications in matters of adoption, divorce, maintenance, inheritance, etc. as all legal provisions are based on marriage between a man and a woman. These provisions may change after interpretation by the Supreme Court.
