Bachelor’s (BS) Degree Scholarships

Application Deadline: Varies (typically between June and December)

Next Course Starts in 2015

Overview:

The Scholarship Programme for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries (SPMC) is designed to offer educational opportunities to academically exceptional yet financially disadvantaged young Muslim students from Muslim communities residing in non-member countries. This program enables them to pursue undergraduate or first-degree studies either in their home country or, in some instances, in IDB member countries.

Host Institutions:

Applicants must secure admission to or be in their first year at a recognized college or university in their home countries. In exceptional cases, when admission to professional courses is unavailable in their country, IDB assists in placing students from these nations in universities within IDB member countries that generously provide slots for IDB students.

Fields of Study:

Scholarships are available for fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, and related disciplines.

Number of Awards:

The number of scholarships is not specified.

Target Group:

These scholarships are intended for Muslims from eligible non-member countries.

Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarships are provided as interest-free loans to the students but as grants to their respective communities. Upon graduation and securing gainful employment, all graduates are required to repay the loan amount to their community (IDB Local Trusts). These repayments are reinvested to award additional scholarships to financially needy local students.

The program covers all relevant expenses during the students’ study period, encompassing tuition fees, health, and living costs, as determined by the IDB.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this scholarship, students/applicants must meet the following fundamental criteria:

  • Maximum age of 24 years
  • Completion of senior secondary/pre-university education with strong grades in major science subjects and the language of instruction
  • Admission to one of the disciplines covered under the Program at a recognized college or university in their home countries
  • Not currently receiving any other scholarship at the time of application and throughout their studies
  • Demonstrated commitment and financial need as a Muslim
  • Recommendation by the Counterpart Organization

Application Instructions:

Inquiries and application forms can be obtained from Counterpart Organizations in beneficiary countries. The Program is announced through these Counterpart Organizations and follows a 12-month cycle of academic and logistical activities each year. The deadline varies but typically falls between June and December.
