Overview:

The Humphrey Fellowship Program is designed for experienced professionals who want to enhance their leadership skills by exchanging knowledge and insights on common issues between the United States and their home countries.

Host Institutions:

Participants in the program are assigned to various U.S. universities based on their professional interests and fields of study. They do not have the option to choose their host university.

Level/Field of Study:

This non-degree program offers valuable opportunities for professional growth through university courses, attending conferences, networking, and practical work experiences. The eligible fields of study include:

– Agricultural and Rural Development
– Communications/Journalism
– Economic Development
– Educational Administration, Planning, and Policy
– Finance and Banking
– Higher Education Administration
– HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention
– Human Resource Management
– Law and Human Rights
– Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change
– Public Health Policy and Management
– Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
– Substance Abuse Education, Treatment, and Prevention
– Teaching of English as a Foreign Language
– Technology Policy and Management
– Trafficking in Persons Policy and Prevention
– Urban and Regional Planning

Number of Awards:

Approximately 200 Fellowships are granted each year.

Eligible Applicants:

Citizens of eligible countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and Eurasia, Middle East and North Africa, East Asia and Pacific, South and Central Asia, and Western Hemisphere can apply.

Scholarship Benefits:

The Fellowship covers:

– Tuition and fees at the assigned host university
– Pre-academic English language training (if required)
– A living allowance, including a settling-in allowance
– Accident and sickness coverage
– A book allowance
– A one-time computer subsidy
– International and domestic travel expenses
– Professional Development allowance for activities like field trips, professional visits, and conferences

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply, you must:

– Have an undergraduate (first university) degree
– Possess at least five years of full-time professional experience
– Have limited or no previous experience in the United States
– Demonstrate leadership qualities
– Show a record of community public service
– Have proficiency in the English language

Application Process:

Application deadlines vary by country but generally fall between May and September each year. The U.S. Embassy or Binational Fulbright Commission in your country will inform you of their internal application deadline. They must submit their nominations to the Institute of International Education office in Washington, DC by October 1st.
