One dies, police car razed in Lagos fire incident

Another Incident recorded in Tejuosho market

One person was killed yesterday in a Fire incident that occurred at 1114, Adeola Odeku Street, by Eletu Ogabi Close, Victoria Island, Lagos.

   
The  ALL STATES NIGERIA learnt the fire also affected a Toyota Saloon passenger car belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of  Lagos  State Police Command stationed outside the premises.
 
An eyewitness said the fire started when welders were allegedly working in the generator house at a headquarters of a bank while the generator was on.
 
According to the eyewitness, the welders did not put off the generator while working and it sparked and ignited fire, which led to the death of a male adult.
   
The bank building was recently completed, awaiting  commissioning in a few weeks time. Also, workers  of the bank kept sealed lips when The ALL STATES NIGERIA tried to find out the cause of the incident.
     
But officials of  Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the generator was faulty and was being fixed before it caught fire.
 
The  agency said  the incident was reported at 10:03a.m.  and the Oba Oniru Fire Station responded to douse the ensuing fire from the industrial generator.
 
The agency also confirmed that one person died in the incident, contrary to reports that six persons died. Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said: “Unfortunately, a male adult was recovered severely burnt beyond recognition and handed over to the Policemen from Bar-Beach Division, while the four-storey commercial building was saved and the RRS men escaped unhurt.
 
Few hours after the incident at a Adeola Odeku in Victoria Island, another fire incident occurred at Tejuosho market in Yaba, Lagos.

Mrs. Adeseye, in an update via Twitter said the fire gutted the “Tailor Market behind the ultra modern Tejuosho Market, Yaba, Lagos.”

“The Fire which involved the clothing and tailoring materials section of the market is being subdued by the Lagos Firefighters,” she said.

Also, Permanent Secretary of the State Emergency Response Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders are at the scene of the Yaba fire. He said: “Our team is on the ground. There have been no casualties so far. We are on top of the situation.”
