The Tema Metropolitan Security Council (MESEC) has decided to refer the Kplejoo shooting incident, which resulted in the killing of two men and injury to three others, to the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for further investigation.

Chaired by Mr. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, MESEC reached this decision during an emergency meeting held on Monday. A statement from the Council, signed by the MCE, outlined the decision and stated the reasons behind it.

According to the statement, MESEC deemed it necessary to refer the matter to REGSEC to ensure a high degree of neutrality and confidentiality in the investigations, especially considering that the investigations involved a wing of the MESEC itself.

The Municipal Security Council expressed its commitment to assisting and cooperating with REGSEC during the investigations to arrive at an appropriate recommendation and conclusion.

MESEC also announced its intention to implement security measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of such incidents, protecting the people of Tema, and securing key installations of the Ghana Navy.

Furthermore, the Council stated its plan to engage with the youth of the town, the Tema Traditional Council, and the Ghana Navy to appeal for peace while investigations were ongoing, emphasizing the importance of justice being duly served.

As part of these measures, representatives from MESEC will visit and commiserate with the bereaved families affected by the incident.

The Metropolitan Security Council appealed to the people of Tema, especially Tema Manhean, to remain calm and peaceful during the investigation process, assuring them that the findings and recommendations from the investigations would be strictly adhered to without fear or favor.
