NSS urges President Akufo-Addo to sign National Service Authority Bill into law

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to promptly sign the Ghana National Service Authority Bill 2024 into law, aiming to grant the secretariat authority and autonomy. This call was made during the policy launch on April 15, 2024.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of NSS, stressed the importance of strengthening and capacitating the National Service scheme to regulate the mobilization and deployment of personnel effectively. He passionately appealed to President Akufo-Addo to approve the bill currently before him, highlighting its potential to expand existing programs such as the NSS teaching model and NSS MSME accounting age.

Mr. Antwi emphasized, “The National Service scheme beyond this policy must be strengthened, capacitated, and significantly resourced to regulate the mobilization and deployment of personnel.” He expressed his belief that upgrading the scheme to a more noble and standardized institution is achievable through the approval of the Ghana National Service Authority Bill 2024.

In response, President Akufo-Addo encouraged stakeholders to support the NSS in achieving its objectives. He expressed confidence that with the implementation of the new policy document, the NSS scheme would play a crucial role in shaping the future of Ghana and empowering the nation's youth to fulfil their potential.

President Akufo-Addo added, “These interventions will solidify the NSS scheme's position as one of the best in the West African and African region for deploying service personnel.” He urged stakeholders to embrace the new changes and focus on the NSS's evolving role in national development.
