Former President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured with the African Advancement Award for Exemplary Leadership at the Africa Heritage Awards 2024, held in Lagos, Nigeria. Organized by the Heritage Times of Nigeria, this prestigious event celebrates influential African innovators, entrepreneurs, and organizations driving the continent towards progress.

Chaired by former Botswana President Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, the 2024 ceremony marked the second edition of the awards, following the inaugural event in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2023.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, former President Mahama attributed his success to the unwavering support of his team during his presidency. He stated, “This award inspires me to strive to be an even better leader,” and expressed his determination to continue serving Ghana with excellence.

Acknowledging the significance of the award, Mahama thanked the Heritage Times for the honour, pledging to cherish it in his office. He also extended his appreciation to all those who have supported him, emphasizing the collective effort needed to achieve progress for Ghana.

The citation accompanying Mahama's award highlighted his strategic initiatives and infrastructure projects aimed at addressing economic challenges and improving livelihoods during his tenure as president. Notable efforts include initiatives to alleviate power shortages and stimulate job creation through agricultural expansion.
