University of Cape Coast honours Oguaamanhen Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II with doctorate degree

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Law (LLD) degree upon Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Oguaamanhen, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to society. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II was celebrated for his visionary leadership, distinguished service to the nation, and his invaluable contributions to the university, the global community, and humanity at large.

The special congregation, which marked the occasion, was attended by dignitaries including Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, parliamentarians, diplomats, traditional rulers, and heads of academic institutions. The event was characterized by a display of refined Ghanaian culture, with Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II showcasing his musical talents alongside the Vivace Symphonials and the Adisadel College band.

In his remarks, Dr. Sir Sam Jonah, the Chancellor of the University, praised Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II as an “extraordinary achiever” whose contributions were indelible. He commended him for his selflessness, passion, and leadership, which had propelled progress on many fronts and reflected a profound understanding of cultural heritage.

Dr. Sir Jonah highlighted Osabarimba's role in promoting regional unity, peace, and local development, emphasizing his exemplary stewardship as paramount chief. He described the honor as long overdue, acknowledging Osabarimba as arguably the best landlord he knew on the planet.

Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, underscored Osabarimba's contributions to governance, growth, and socio-economic development. He recognized Osabarimba's influence in infrastructure development and his efforts in fostering education and empowering the youth, including facilitating increased access to education for Cape Coasters.

Accepting the honor, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II expressed gratitude to the university and pledged continuous support. He assured the university of his commitment to resolving challenges between the institution and its host communities and pledged financial support for the best graduating BSc Accounting student annually.

Osabarimba appealed to UCC to assist in improving academic performance in elementary schools in Cape Coast, emphasizing the importance of nurturing competitiveness and expertise to address challenges in education.

Known for his outstanding leadership, promotion of peace, education advocacy, and philanthropy, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II continues to make significant contributions to society.
