The Board and Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of operations at the Airport, in collaboration with stakeholders.

The statement comes in response to recent allegations of cocaine smuggling at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), as reported in a newspaper publication dated April 1, 2024. The alleged incident, involving the suspected smuggling of 8.5 kilograms of cocaine through KIA on March 23, 2024, is currently under investigation by Relevant Authorities.

In light of these developments, the GACL has reiterated its warning to staff regarding the facilitation of passengers at the airport. Staff Members are reminded that any involvement in illicit activities, including drug smuggling, will result in punitive measures being taken. These measures may include summary dismissals and prosecution by the State, in accordance with existing protocols.

As part of its internal administrative processes, the Board and Management of GACL have taken swift action to interdict all staff members relevant to the ongoing investigation. This proactive approach underscores the company's commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and integrity in its operations.

The GACL assures the public that it remains vigilant in safeguarding the integrity of airport operations and will continue to collaborate closely with relevant authorities to address any breaches of security or safety protocols.
