Nine police personnel sustained injuries of varying degrees during an operation in Nandom, Upper West Region when their service vehicle was involved in an accident on the Nandom-Hamile highway.
The injured officers are identified as Chief Inspector Fatawu Jangu, Constable Sandra Abdul-Rahman, Constable Rose Amu, and General Constables Felix Amponsah, Emmanuel Asare, Emmanuel Oppong, Christian Antwi, as well as Ezra Kwaku Lamedeku. They are currently receiving treatment at Nandom.
According to a news brief, the incident occurred on April 5, 2024, around 8:00 a.m., following a distress call regarding a potential road blockade by a group from the Dagaaba/Sissala conflict in Lambussie. The police team, led by Chief Inspector Fatawu Jangu, responded to the call by patrolling the Piina-Fermor Road through Piina, Suke, and Bugnuo to prevent the blockade.
However, upon discovering that the information was inaccurate, the team was returning when their vehicle, driven by Chief Inspector Jangu, was involved in an accident near Bu on the Nandom-Hamile Highway.
The accident vehicle has been towed to the Nandom Police station for further investigation.
