Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has strongly criticized Ghana's tax system, describing it as a form of blatant robbery. In his assessment, Domelevo highlighted the heavy burden imposed on taxpayers, emphasizing the constant taxation endured even after paying income tax and taxes on earnings.
During an interview on JoyNews' AM Show, Domelevo expressed concern over what he sees as “daylight robbery” in the tax system. He pointed out that taxpayers face multiple layers of taxation, with withholding taxes or pay-as-you-earn deductions on income, followed by additional taxes when purchasing goods or services. Domelevo labelled this situation as unacceptable and urged for immediate attention to address the challenges faced by ordinary taxpayers.
