Malnutrition, anemia remain concern to UNICEF

Madam Josephine Agborson, a Health Officer at the UNICEF Accra Office, emphasized the ongoing challenges of malnutrition and anemia among children under five, underscoring the continued concern of the United Nations body in addressing these issues.

Speaking at the Volta Regional 2023 Annual Performance Review conference in Ho, Madam Agborson stressed the importance of addressing challenges such as stunting and wasting rates while promoting proven interventions to improve infant and young child feeding practices.

Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of strengthening routine immunization programs, particularly in underserved communities, both rural and urban, to achieve and sustain high coverage rates. Additionally, she emphasized the necessity of addressing adolescent health outcomes, including teenage pregnancy rates and access to sexual and reproductive health services.

Madam Agborson reiterated UNICEF's dedication to providing technical assistance to the Ghana Health Service, translating data findings into advocacy messages to drive policy change and resource allocation. UNICEF also commits to offering expertise in areas such as immunization, maternal and newborn care, adolescent health, and nutrition to strengthen service delivery at all levels.

By leveraging data, fostering collaboration, and harnessing UNICEF's support, Madam Agborson expressed optimism that the Volta Regional Health Directorate could make significant strides toward ensuring a healthier future, particularly for women, newborns, children, and adolescents in the region.

The conference also featured solidarity messages from various development partners, including the Korea Foundation for International Health (KOFIH), USAID Q4H, WHO, and NGOs in Health, highlighting the collective commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in the region.
