FDA advises public to eat from restaurants, drinking spots with hygiene permits

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a public advisory urging consumers to patronize restaurants, food vendors, and drinking spots that possess valid food hygiene permits. According to the FDA, individuals who consume food from establishments operating without these permits risk exposing themselves to unwholesome food and potential health hazards.

Mrs. Gloria Azerongma Salifu, a Senior Regulatory Officer at the FDA's Bono Regional Office, emphasized the importance of checking for hygiene permits when dining out. She explained that the absence of such permits indicates that the FDA has not approved the establishment's operations, potentially compromising Food Safety standards.

“The permit shows that personnel of the FDA have visited and inspected the work environment and approved their activities,” Mrs. Salifu stated.

Highlighting the collective responsibility for food safety, Mrs. Salifu stressed the importance of vigilance among consumers to avoid purchasing unwholesome products and exposing themselves to health risks.

Additionally, the public was advised to check the expiry dates of canned foods before purchasing and to opt for cooked or boiled food served in clean environments to further ensure food safety.

This advisory underscores the FDA's commitment to safeguarding public health and emphasizes the importance of adherence to food safety regulations by food establishments across the region.
