Ghana Revenue Authority commends outgoing Commissioner-General for achievements

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has praised Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the outgoing Commissioner-General, for his significant contributions and achievements during his tenure, which ends on March 31, 2024.

According to a statement issued by the Authority, Rev Dr Owusu-Amoah was initially appointed as Commissioner-General in October 2019 and was granted two contract extensions, the latest of which ends this month.

Under his leadership, the GRA implemented a comprehensive digitalization agenda, introducing initiatives such as cashless tax payments, online filing of returns, and the taxation of e-commerce. These efforts have led to notable milestones, including exceeding Revenue targets for four consecutive years and achieving significant revenue growth.

In 2023, the GRA recorded the highest year-on-year revenue growth in the last twenty years, along with the highest tax-to-GDP ratio of 14.1%. Notably, tax revenue growth more than doubled within two years, reflecting exceptional performance.

Rev Dr Owusu-Amoah's leadership style, characterized by collaboration and punctuality, has earned him recognition and awards, including being named an outstanding Public Sector Leader at the Ghana CEOs Excellence Awards in 2023.

The GRA management commended Rev Dr Owusu-Amoah for his exceptional leadership, especially in driving digitalization, and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Established in 2009, the GRA is responsible for assessing, collecting, and accounting for tax revenue in Ghana, consolidating the functions of three former revenue agencies under the Ghana Revenue Authority Act 2009 (Act 791).
