Institute of Directors-Ghana to honour Asantehene

The Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh) has formally requested permission from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to honour him for his exemplary leadership over Asanteman. The Institute commended the King's governance, noting its profound impact not only within the country but also across the African continent and globally.

Led by Rev Mrs Angela Carmen Appiah, President of IoD-Gh, the executives of the Institute conveyed the request during a courtesy call at Manhyia Palace on March 27, 2024. They proposed holding a special event at the Palace to recognize and honour Asantehene for his outstanding contributions to promoting good governance.

Rev Appiah emphasized the significance of the occasion, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Institute. She expressed the Institute's desire to bestow a unique award or honour on Asantehene, acknowledging his admirable and ethical leadership in governance.

Furthermore, IoD-Gh expressed its intention to establish a lasting partnership with the Palace. They proposed instituting the IoD-Gh Otumfuo Best Graduating Student in Corporate Governance Award at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Additionally, they sought permission to create the Otumfuo Centre of Excellence in Corporate Governance at the KNUST School of Business, dedicated to researching and promoting good corporate governance practices in Asanteman, Ghana, and beyond.

The IoD-Gh delegation included esteemed members such as Kofi Asumadu-Apenteng, IoD-Gh Council Member and Chair of Otumfuo Project; Prof Ahmed Agyapong, Dean of Knust Business School; Prof K O Appiah, Vice Dean of KNUST Business School; and Dr Richard Owusu Afriyie, Senior Lecturer at KNUST Business School. Additionally, Prof Hannah Vivian Osei from KNUST Business School, Mr Evans Agbozo, Deputy Regional Commander of Customs, and Dr Alfred Sarbah, Senior Lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, were also present during the courtesy call.
