Ejisu Sec Tech students unveil new local recipes

A two-day nutrition campaign has been organized by the Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the World Food Programme at Ejisu Senior High Technical School under the special initiative of School Health Education Programme (SHEP) which was under the theme “Back to School Nutrition Campaign”. The programme was geared towards the change of behaviour in the low usage of local food ingredients and preparing local dishes in our everyday living.

Some Home Economics students of Ejisu Senior High Technical School were tasked to prepare food with some local ingredients which should include parboiled Rice in their main dishes, snacks, desserts and accompaniments. The final outcome was overwhelming to the surprise of the dignities from the Ghana Education Service, World Food Program Organisers and other dignities from different sectors.

In an exclusive interview with the National Shep Director, Theresa Oppong-Mensah emphasized that “it will be very beneficial to recuperate our old ways of preparing food because some of the species and modernised way of cooking do more harm than good, therefore, we must try our best to go back to our old ways of cooking with local ingredients to avoid diseases like Diabetes, Heart diseases and many others.

The headmistress of Ejisu Senior High Technical School, Ms Grace Asamani also stressed that, “most students should advise themselves from being lazy to cook at home and emphasized that, buying junk foods and fast foods can cause them great harm.

The cooking competitors amazingly prepared variety of dishes and drinks like Parboiled Unpolished Jollof, Vegetable Beef Rice, Millet and Rice Short Bread, Fruit Pizza, Parboiled Horcha Rice Drink, Rice Chocolate Drink, Coconut Rice, Chocolate Rice Pudding and many more

In an interview with the winning team from the cooking competition, their leader with the name Agyeiwaa Evelyn expressed how they managed to use various olden ways of cooking to prepare their foods and pleaded with the government to include some of these menu's into their dinning hall foods.

Ghana's Dancing teacher Mr Percy Jackson who was one of the special guest also added that “every student shouldn't take their talent for granted but must nurture his or her talent to reduce unemployment in Africa.
