Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate donates to residents displaced by rainstorm

Godfred Nti Anewu, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central, has extended a helping hand to victims of a recent devastating rainstorm in Assin Fosu. Anewu donated 40 packets of roofing sheets and 10 bags of cement to assist those affected by the calamity, which wreaked havoc on the community.

The rainstorm, which battered Assin Fosu, left a trail of destruction, impacting 130 residents and demolishing 21 houses, along with several public buildings including schools, churches, the chief's palace, and electricity poles. The disaster inflicted darkness on some parts of the town, causing extensive damage estimated at GH¢227,000. Additionally, two individuals sustained injuries during the calamitous event.

Accompanied by officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Anewu toured the affected community to assess the damage firsthand. Expressing his sympathy for the victims, Anewu emphasized that the donation aimed to alleviate their suffering, especially for those who found themselves homeless due to the destruction of their dwellings. He hoped that the roofing sheets and cement would facilitate the reconstruction process, enabling affected families to reunite under safe and secure shelter once again.

Mr. Samuel Kwakye, Municipal Director of NADMO, underscored the importance of taking weather warnings seriously and urged the public to adopt a strict maintenance culture. He cautioned against indiscriminate tree felling, emphasizing the crucial role of trees as natural windbreaks to mitigate the impact of severe weather events.

Grateful beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Mr. Anewu for his timely intervention, acknowledging the support as a lifeline during their time of need.
