Sunyani NEDCo recovers over Gh¢16 million in special revenue drive

The Sunyani Area of the Northern Electricity Development Company (NEDCo), spanning the Bono and Ahafo regions, has successfully concluded a three-week special revenue mobilization exercise, reclaiming a total of Gh¢ 16,457,210.63 million in outstanding debts.

Initially setting a target of Gh¢ 45 million in debt collection from consumers, the Sunyani Area surpassed expectations by recouping the entire amount owed by customers in arrears to NEDCo.

Mr. Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager, shared insights with the Ghana News Agency, highlighting the key success of the initiative. He emphasized the importance of negotiating payment agreements with major customers holding significant debts to NEDCo.

Notable agreements were struck with prominent debtors such as Ayum Timber Company in Mim and Golden Mining in Hwediem. Additionally, ongoing discussions are underway with the Sunyani Technical University to finalize payment terms.

Mr. Addo underscored NEDCo's dedication to avoiding customer disconnections, citing the additional costs and inconveniences incurred, including loss of working hours, fuel expenses, and delays in providing essential services such as new connections.

Encouraging proactive settlement of utility bills, Mr. Addo urged consumers to adhere to the legal requirement of paying bills within 14 days of receipt. He emphasized NEDCo's commitment to educating customers on the significance of timely payments and fostering constructive dialogues with debtors to maintain a low debt profile.
