Otto Addo marks Black Stars return with a 2-0 loss against Nigeria

In an international friendly match at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco, the Black Stars of Ghana faced a 2-0 loss to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, marking Coach Otto Addo's return to the team.

Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman found the net for Nigeria, securing a decisive victory over their West African rivals. Despite Jordan Ayew's late consolation goal for Ghana in the second half, it wasn't enough to overturn the deficit.

The match marked Coach Otto Addo's first game back with the Black Stars following their disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. With key players like Mohammed Kudus sidelined due to injury, new faces like Forson Amankwaa were given opportunities to shine.

Crystal Palace winger Jordan Ayew led the team as captain, while goalkeeper Ati-Zigi returned as the first-choice goalkeeper. Despite a spirited effort from Ghana, Nigeria dominated play for much of the game.

A penalty just before halftime gave Nigeria the lead, and matters worsened for Ghana when defender Jeorome Opoku received a red card early in the second half. Despite being down to 10 men, the Black Stars continued to create chances but couldn't capitalize.

Jordan Ayew's late penalty provided a glimmer of hope for Ghana, but ultimately, the team fell short, extending their winless streak to six matches.

The Black Stars will look to bounce back in their next friendly match against Uganda on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, once again at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
