NEDCo urges public to settle utility bills promptly to avoid disconnection

Mr. Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager for the Northern Electricity Development Company (NEDCo), has urged the public to take responsibility for settling their Utility Bills promptly to avoid disconnection of services.

Addo emphasized that every responsible citizen should settle their utility bills without needing to be pursued, as adherence to the legal requirement of paying bills within 14 days of receiving notice is expected.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Addo highlighted the revenue mobilization exercise conducted in the region from February 26 to March 15, 2024. The Sunyani Area aimed to collect GH¢ 45 million but managed to retrieve GH¢16,457,210.63 million from customers in arrears to NEDCo.

Addo stressed the importance of avoiding customer disconnections, citing additional costs incurred by customers such as loss of working hours, fuel expenses, and delays in accessing essential services like new connections.

He noted the positive outcome of the exercise, highlighting negotiations with key customers who owe the company. Discussions were held with entities like the Ayum Timber Company in Mim and Golden Mining at Hwidiem, both in the Ahafo Region. Additionally, ongoing discussions with the Sunyani Technical University (STU) aim to finalize payment terms.

Addo reiterated NEDCo's commitment to educating customers on the significance of timely bill payments and engaging in dialogue with debtors to maintain a low debt profile through effective planning and agreement signing.
