Chris Hughton names Black Stars squad for Central African Republic AFCON qualifiers

Ghana's national football team coach, Chris Hughton, has unveiled his 25-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central African Republic in Kumasi. Notably, Medeama SC striker Jonathan Sowah has secured a spot in the squad.

Sowah, formerly of Danbort FC, joined Medeama SC in the second transfer window and made a significant impact, scoring 12 goals to contribute to their league title win.

Additionally, the squad welcomes the return of Elisha Owusu and Baba Iddrisu, both of whom have recovered from injuries. Baba Iddrisu missed the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, while Elisha Owusu, who sustained an injury in February, has not represented Ghana since the FIFA World Cup finals in November of the previous year.

Another notable inclusion is South Africa-based goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who has not featured for Ghana since September 27, 2022, during Ghana's 1-0 victory over Nicaragua in a pre-World Cup friendly in Lorca, Spain.

However, Arsenal star Thomas Partey is notably absent from the squad due to injury. Partey suffered the injury during training, and while the extent of his absence is uncertain, the Black Stars medical team is closely monitoring his condition.

Ghana is gearing up to host the Central African Republic in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
