FIFA rewards five Ghanaian football clubs with USD 565,772 for player release during World Cup

Five Ghanaian football clubs, namely Asante Kotoko SC, Accra Hearts of Oak SC, Dreams FC, King Faisal, and Steadfast FC, will collectively receive USD 565,772 as part of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme.

The funds are being awarded to clubs that released players during Ghana's participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The FIFA Club Benefits Programme is a significant initiative that financially rewards clubs for their contribution to the success of the FIFA World Cup, recognizing their role in making it the premier sports competition worldwide.

The programme ensures that a portion of the World Cup revenues is redistributed to the clubs.

The amounts received by the Ghanaian clubs are specific to the players they released for the World Cup. Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Asante Kotoko SC will receive payments in respect of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Ibrahim Danlad, respectively.

Steadfast FC and Dreams FC will also receive payments related to Issahaku Abdul Fatawu, who played for both clubs before leaving the local scene.

In total, USD 209 million was distributed to clubs worldwide that released players for the World Cup or had players registered with them during the two-year qualification phase leading up to the tournament.

A total of 440 clubs from around the globe shared in this distribution of funds.
