South Dayi MP Rockson Dafeamekpor defends Dormaahene’s call to discontinue Quayson court case

Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for the South Dayi constituency, has stated that Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, did not breach any rules when he called on the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, to discontinue the court case involving MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

Dormaahene faced criticism for his comments on the pending court case, but Dafeamekpor defended him, asserting that it is unnecessary to vilify the Dormaahene for expressing his views and emphasizing his support for discontinuing the case.

Dafeamekpor argued that the Dormaahene's comments did not violate any code of conduct for judges and magistrates, despite him being a sitting High Court judge. He criticized those who insulted the Dormaahene and challenged anyone to provide evidence of a code that was breached.

The legislator highlighted that the Dormaahene's plea is constitutional and in line with the rule of law, adding that he did not coerce the Attorney-General but rather made a plea that can be either heeded or ignored. Dafeamekpor stressed the importance of free expression and criticized those engaging in undemocratic behaviour.

During the John Evans Atta Mills 10th Anniversary Commemorative lecture in Sunyani, the Dormaahene appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to discontinue the trial case of Mr Quayson and called on the Attorney General to file a nolle prosequi to end the matter.
