David Adjaye faces fallout as US art spaces reconsider presentations of his work

World-renowned architect David Adjaye is facing repercussions following allegations of sexual misconduct, with art spaces in the US reconsidering their presentations of his work.

The de Cordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Massachusetts announced the cancellation of a large Adjaye sculpture, while the Counterpublic triennial in St. Louis will engage in community dialogue regarding another installation by Adjaye.

These decisions come in response to allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct made by three women, including claims of a “toxic work culture” at Adjaye Associates.

In his response, Adjaye vehemently denied the allegations and expressed his commitment to seeking professional help.

However, Asaase News has conducted an investigation and received evidence from reliable sources indicating that the abuse claims are part of a long-standing plan to extort money from Adjaye.

As one of the world's celebrated architects, Adjaye's reputation has been built on notable projects such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

His architectural designs and sculptures have been widely acclaimed. However, the recent allegations have prompted a reevaluation of his involvement in various projects.

The Counterpublic triennial, which includes Adjaye's sculpture Asaase III, stated their commitment to supporting survivors and expressed their intention to assess the best next steps in light of the allegations.

Similarly, the de Cordova Sculpture Park and Museum decided to put their project with Adjaye on indefinite hold.

Adjaye has already stepped away from projects in London, including a planned Holocaust memorial and his role as architectural adviser to the mayor of London.

He also reportedly resigned from his position as a board member of the Serpentine Galleries.

These decisions were made to ensure that the allegations do not distract from the organizations involved.

Further consequences have emerged, with the Multnomah County Library in Portland ending its collaboration with Adjaye Associates on a new flagship space project. The fallout from the allegations continues to impact Adjaye's professional engagements.
