Police arrest two suspects involved in Lugni shooting incident

The Security Forces in Lugni have apprehended two suspects, Kofi Binyam and a local plumber named Mensah, in connection with the recent chieftaincy clashes in the area.

The police patrol team in the town made the arrests after observing the two individuals carrying guns.

Following the intervention of the security forces, calm has been restored to the community.

The residents of Lugni, located in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region, experienced a period of panic on Thursday due to a chieftaincy dispute that escalated into multiple gunshots.

The conflict arose when the regent of Lugni granted kola (a traditional offering) to a Konkomba leader to be installed as the chief of the Konkombas in Lugni. However, another Clan within the Konkomba community opposed this decision.

The feuding factions involved are the Binyam and Naamuhi clans.

Sources report that on Thursday night, during preparations for the chief's public inauguration, the aggrieved clan began firing gunshots.

Allegedly, the Naamuhi clan was targeted in the attack, carried out by members of the Binyam clan.
