Two Ghanaian students studying in the United States have met with a fatal accident, losing their lives in a devastating car crash, as confirmed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision involving two vehicles occurred in Pickens County on Sunday at approximately 10:30 p.m., according to Lance Cpl Nick Pye.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley stated that the victims, Alberta Oduraa Quartey, 23, and Abena Gyamfua, 31, residents of Clemson, succumbed to blunt force trauma.

The unfortunate incident took place when Quartey and Gyamfua were passengers in a 2006 BMW sedan travelling south on S.C. They died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the SUV, along with the driver and another passenger in the car, was transported to a local hospital. No further updates on their conditions were available.

The usage of seat belts by the individuals involved in the crash remains unclear.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol, and no information regarding the exact circumstances has been disclosed.

Clemson University, as reported by WYFF, confirmed that both Quartey and Gyamfua were graduate students from Ghana. Quartey was pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering, while Gyamfua was working towards a master of arts in education, as indicated on their LinkedIn profiles.

Clemson Vice President and Dean of Students Chris Miller expressed the university's deep sorrow over the loss of these students, according to WYFF.
