Accra, Ghana – Franklin Cudjoe, President of Imani Africa, has expressed his belief that former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, stands a high chance of defeating Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race proceeds to a run-off.
Cudjoe's remarks align with the findings of a survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics and Citi TV/Citi FM, which showed Kyerematen leading Bawumia by a narrow margin of 38% to 37% in the presidential primary votes.
Candidate | Poll Results |
---|---|
Alan Kwadjo Kyerematen | 38% |
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia | 37% |
Undecided | 16% |
Not Disclosed | 9% |
According to Cudjoe, the battle between the two candidates in the internal polls is expected to be highly challenging. He emphasized the possibility of other candidates rallying around Kyerematen in the event of a second round, potentially edging out Bawumia.
Cudjoe advised Bawumia's camp to address any vulnerabilities promptly to prevent the contest from reaching a run-off, stating, “Every chink in the armor of Bawumia has to be unleashed right now to ensure that it doesn't get to the second round, and I think that should be their strategy.”
Cudjoe also expressed concern over the survey's revelation that 70% of respondents believed the country was heading in the right direction. He questioned the implications of sticking with the same modus operandi and expressed doubt about the country's progress if no changes were made.
