I would rather leave Ghana than accept LGBTQ+ practices – Speaker Alban Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has revealed that the current session of Parliament will pass an anti-LGBTQ+ law, disregarding the ongoing court cases related to the matter.

Mr Bagbin emphasized that Parliament will deliberate on the issue and ensure the law is enacted, pointing out that there is no injunction against Parliament's proceedings.

During a press soirée organized by Parliament in Tamale, the former Nadowli Kaleo MP expressed his strong opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, stating that he would rather leave Ghana than live in a society where such practices are legally recognized.

While reaffirming his personal stance against LGBTQ+ practices, Mr Bagbin acknowledged the importance of not violating their rights.

“On the LGBTQ+, the +++ being other things they don't want you to know, you can go and marry a cat and wed in a church, and you say the law should allow it? Anyway, I have declared that I can't live in such a society that's why I love my Ghana,” he asserted.

Mr Bagbin argued that LGBTQ+ practices were not in alignment with what he referred to as Ghanaian family values, citing the rulings of the European court against them and the need for legislation to regulate their activities.

He also highlighted the consequences that European countries are reportedly facing due to the LGBTQ+ practices within their jurisdictions, predicting that in the next 50 years, there will be no indigenous Europeans in the world.

He further warned about the declining fertility rates in Europe and projected that in 100 years, the world will be predominantly Muslim.

The Speaker emphasized his commitment to preserving Ghana's values and ensuring its survival as a nation.

The press soirée was organized as part of the activities commemorating Parliament's 30th anniversary. The Speaker and his team are scheduled to visit various traditional rulers and hold a public forum in Tamale.
