NCCE urges Dormaa Central Municipality to report suspicious characters and behaviors for security

Residents in the Dormaa Central Municipality have received a call to promptly report individuals displaying suspicious characters and engaging in strange behaviours to law enforcement agencies.

This advice was given by Mr Seth Broni Tagbolorh, the Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), during a program organized by the Commission to educate and sensitize students and the public about Prevention and Containing Extreme Violence (PCEV) at the Dormaa Vocational Technical Institute (DVTI) in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Bono Region.

The NCCE is utilizing the PCVE program to create public awareness through a series of engagements, educational activities, and interactions with students and the public regarding the causes and effects of violent extremism.

The objective of the program was to equip people with the knowledge and information necessary to identify and report any acts or early warning signs that could undermine peace and development in the area.

Mr Tagbolorh emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the behaviour and conduct of individuals, particularly those who may disguise themselves as students or traders in market centres, but with ulterior motives to cause harm to individuals or groups.

He urged landlords to conduct background checks on potential tenants, getting to know their character, occupation, hometown, and how long they have resided in the community before renting out rooms or apartments.

Addressing students, Mr Tagbolorh urged them to assist their peers involved in drug abuse, as such behaviours often lead to lawlessness and violent acts, including school demonstrations that result in dire consequences.

He emphasized the negative impact of student unrest, which leads to the loss of lives and destruction of property, hindering academic and personal development as well as the progress of affected schools.

Mr Tagbolorh also advised students to exercise caution when using social media platforms to avoid falling prey to online extremist groups that recruit individuals based on their employment status to carry out criminal and illegal activities.

Madam Sandra Safoa Obour, Municipal Civic Educator of the Commission, appealed to students to actively participate in democratic processes and refrain from engaging in deviant acts during the upcoming district-level and unit committee elections.

She cautioned students about the existence of extremist groups that may attempt to entice them with money to join their ranks and carry out malicious and harmful agendas.
