Chief of Fiapre lauds Free Senior High School programme for bridging education gap

Obrempong Professor Kyem Amponsah, the Chief of Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality, has praised the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme for its invaluable contributions in narrowing the education disparity between the affluent and the underprivileged in society.

He urged Ghanaians to support the government's efforts to strengthen the implementation of the programme, aiming to benefit more Ghanaian children. Obrempong Prof. Amponsah emphasized that the FSHS programme was making a significant impact and should be backed to achieve desirable outcomes.

Speaking at the induction of Sunyani Municipal and Circuit Parents Association Executives in Sunyani, under the theme “Solidifying Parental Support for Education Delivery in the Sunyani Municipality,” Obrempong Prof. Amponsah expressed his commendation.

Obrempong Prof. Amponsah, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Ghana Telecommunication University, acknowledged that although the government was making efforts and doing much to enhance quality education, there were still gaps in the nation's educational sector that required a concerted and collective approach to address.

He emphasized the need to support the government in addressing the deficit in educational infrastructure, particularly the provision of ICT laboratories in basic and senior high schools. “Supervision and monitoring remain essential and key elements in enhancing quality education,” he added, urging the associations to contribute to improvements in these areas within schools.

Obrempong Prof. Amponsah also expressed concern about the growing indiscipline and moral decay among school children. He called on the associations to collaborate with school management to instil high moral values in students.

Furthermore, Obrempong Prof. Amponsah appealed to teachers to redouble their efforts to improve the academic performance of pupils and students. He encouraged them to follow the procedures laid down by the Ghana Education Service to ensure discipline in schools.

Mr Godfred Mark Domah, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, emphasized the vital role of parents in ensuring quality education.

He advised the associations to establish effective collaboration with teachers to address pertinent challenges that hinder the growth of education in the municipality.
