Asantehene calls for continued friendship between Manhyia Palace and Muslim community

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and harmonious relationship between the Muslim community and the Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region. He highlighted that the longstanding friendship between the two has been instrumental in promoting peace, coexistence, and community development.

Speaking at a Quran recitation ceremony organized by Alhaji Ali Barry, the Kumasi Zongo Nkosuohene, in collaboration with the Council of Ulamau in the Ashanti region, the Asantehene celebrated his 75th birthday at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace. The recitation aimed to pray for Allah's guidance, good health, and long life for the Asantehene on his milestone birthday. It also served as a gesture of solidarity, demonstrating support for the peaceful relationship fostered between the Manhyia Palace and the Muslim community.

Recounting the historical significance of Muslims within the Palace, Otumfuo acknowledged their integral role in the traditional leadership of the Asante Kingdom. He urged the Muslim community to continue promoting peace and harmony with their neighbors, aligning with the teachings of their religion.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, led the Quran recitation and echoed the call for maintaining peaceful coexistence. He encouraged all tribal leaders to remain calm amidst the recent disagreements surrounding the appointment of a new Zongo Chief, expressing confidence that Manhyia Palace would resolve the issue.
