Rhonex Kipruto, Kenya’s 10k world record holder, suspended for anti-doping violation

Kenyan athlete and current world record holder in the 10-kilometre road race, Rhonex Kipruto, has been provisionally suspended for an anti-doping violation, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announcement on Wednesday.

Kipruto, who also clinched a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2019 world championships, set the 10-km road race world record in 2020.

The AIU took to Twitter to disclose that Kipruto’s suspension was due to “the use of a Prohibited Substance/Method (ABP).”

ABP refers to the Athlete Biological Passport, a monitoring system that helps detect discrepancies and irregularities that may indicate the use of performance-enhancing substances.

The AIU further stated that a notice of the charge has been issued to the 23-year-old runner.
