NDC Primaries coming off with or without EC – Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emphasized its preparedness to proceed with its presidential and parliamentary Primaries on Saturday, even if the Electoral Commission (EC) fails to carry out the exercise.

In a press briefing held on Friday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, stated that while the EC is mandated to supervise the elections, the party is ready to organize the polls independently in the event of a breach of contractual agreements by the EC.

Nketiah highlighted the contractual agreement between the NDC and the EC, expressing the party's willingness to use its internal structures to conduct the primaries should the EC fail to fulfill its supervisory role.

He mentioned that discussions were held with the EC that morning to ensure the dispatch of all necessary materials for the primaries.

The NDC even offered to provide transportation assistance, including the option of flying the materials if any difficulties were encountered. Nketiah emphasized that the party would take full responsibility for the elections, ensuring that they proceed as planned.

The decision by the EC not to supervise the election was initially prompted by an injunction application filed by one of the flagbearer hopefuls, Dr. Kwabena Duffour. However, the suit was subsequently withdrawn, leading to its dismissal by the court.

With the legal obstacle resolved, the NDC remains resolute in its commitment to conducting the primaries on the scheduled date.
