UCC senior staff begin indefinite strike over unresolved grievances

Senior staff of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have embarked on an indefinite strike over the delay in working on their negotiated allowances, conditions of service and promotions.

The local chapter of the Senior Staff Association of the Universities of Ghana at the University of Cape Coast says its members are unhappy about the delays on the part of the management of the university in resolving certain pertinent issues regarding its members.

The group has stated that issues and grievances such as negotiated allowances, conditions of service, promotion of its members, and inclusion within the senior staff rank have been tabled before the management since last year, but they have not seen the light of day hence the action.

The striking senior staff at UCC had red bands on their wrists and hands, with some insisting that they will not work until their grievances are met. “We are not going to resume work until they fix the situation,” they said.

The Association is also worried that the issues its members are fighting for have been negotiated and approved by other universities, but the situation is different at the University of Cape Coast.
