Robeisy Ramirez outclasses Isaac Dogboe in bid for second world title

Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, the Ghanaian boxer, failed in his attempt to become a two-time World Champion after being outclassed by Cuba's Robeisy Ramirez in a 12-round encounter.

Ramirez secured the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) featherweight title at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday with a dominant performance that earned him a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the bout in his favour (119-110, 118-108, and 117-110).

Dogboe, a former WBO Super bantamweight champion, had won four straight bouts after suffering consecutive losses to Emanuel Naverrete.

In his most recent match, he was expected to outbox Ramirez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, but it was the Cuban who landed the big shots and gradually took control of the match after Dogboe's strong start.

The match was characterized by calculated offence and strong defence from both boxers, with Ramirez landing clean punches and excellent counterpunches, while Dogboe concentrated on the Cuban's body. Ramirez scored a knockdown in the final round over the Ghanaian boxer and ended the fight with a highly dominant win.

Ramirez praised Dogboe as a warrior who had earned his respect after the bout, saying, “All the respect to a warrior like Isaac Dobgoe, he has my respect, but all I had to do (to beat him) was listen to my trainer, Ismael Salas.” Ramirez also expressed his desire to fight against other featherweight champions in the future.

Despite the loss, Dogboe remains optimistic and has vowed to return to the ring stronger. In a tweet after the bout, he said, “I want to thank everyone for the love and support. We'll come back stronger.”

The defeat marks Dogboe's third loss in his professional boxing career, dropping his record to 24-3 with 15 knockouts. Ramirez, on the other hand, improves his record to 12-1 with seven knockouts and adds another title to his collection.
