The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of the cable suspension Bridge over the river Krishna between Somasila, and Telangana. The 500 crore Union budget project is approved for 2023-24 for the construction of the cable bridge between Nagar Kurnool district and Sangameshwar in Nadyal district in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh to connect it with Telangana.

The new cable bridge with a four-lane carriageway to be taken up at an estimated cost of about ₹1,100 crores is set to connect Hyderabad and Tirupati by 90 km via Nandyal. This new bridge will also reduce the travel distance between Hyderabad, Kadapa, and Chittoor.

However, the reports have been released by the Union Government show that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed Rs 6,612.44 crore in the 2023-24 budget for the construction of the bridge and roads in Telangana and Rs. 500 crores alone for the construction of the cable bridge to build over River Krishna.

According to the officials, the new bridge reduces the distance from Hyderabad, Kadapa, Chittoor, and Tirupati because now the route by road is covering Kurnool city. And once the bridge is completed this would reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati by 80km. Besides just reducing the distances, the bridge was expected to attract tourists to its picturesque amazing location on the Srisailam reservoir backwaters in the Nallamala range.

This new bridge would be having many unique and amazing features like the longest glass pedestrian walkway across a river, the temple gopurams including signature lighting, pythons, and a large navigational span. The bridge would also have beautiful surroundings and beauty the Srisailam reservoir is surrounded by Nallamala forests and high mountains with the tourist officials. However, the approval for the bridge under the Bharat Mala Pari Yojana Project by the standing committee is yet to finalize.

This cable bridge across the river Krishna would be 3km in length connecting Somasila near Kallapur in Telangana with Siddeshwaram of Kothapalli mandal in Srisailam constituency in Andhra Pradesh. This new bridge is expected to develop different tourism activities in the area and for the same, the tender has been released for the development of the bridge around 170km four-lane highway on both sides of the river.

The project will complete in 30 months, the MoRTH has already recognized a 170 km long road between Kalwakurthy Nagar Kurnool Kollapur in Telangana and Atmakur Nandayl in Andhra Pradesh as a national highway.

Bridging the Distance
  1. The upper path of the cable bridge will have a four-lane main carriageway
  2. The lower pedestrian deck enables the tourists to walk watching the flow of the river and its serene beauty.
  3. The lower path of the bridge also has an 800-m-long glass path as a special attraction for tourists and visitors.
  4. This new National Highway 167-K covers the cable bridge that runs for 173.7 km from Kotra junction in Nagar Kurnool district to Nandyal district.
  5. It covers Kalwakurthy, Kollapur, Nagar Kurnool, Somasila, and Malleshwaram, all in Telangana and Sangameshwar, Siddeshwaram, Atmakur, and Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh.
