Meet The 3 Indians In Forbes Issue Featuring 20 Asian Businesswomen

Recently, Forbes released its November issue featuring three Indian businesswomen among 20 Asian Entrepreneurs. Women from India, Thailand, South Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore are on the list. In this article, we are going to mention 3 Indian businesswomen who are on the Forbes list. 

1. Soma Mondal

Soma Mondal

Soma Mondal is the Chairperson of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL). The company has registered record-breaking earnings since she has taken over the designation in 2017. The annual revenue of the company grew by 50% to more than ₹1.03 trillion from 2021 to March 2022. It is during this period, the company paid off the debt of around ₹220 billion. 

The businesswoman pursued her graduation in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology at Rourkela in 1984 and has experience working in the metals industry since then. 

2. Namita Thapar

Namita Thapar is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharma. The entrepreneur is currently the managing director of the ₹61 billion Pune-based company that was founded by her father, Satish Mehta.

Thapar started working for the company in 2007. Emcure Pharma is the leading manufacturer of drugs for diseases like cardiovascular, HIV, and many others. The businesswoman took over Emcure’s India operations about five years ago, and the company saw its revenue double to an amount of ₹25 billion over the years.

Namita Thapar also has a YouTube channel called Unconditional Yourself With Namita Thapar. On her channel, she creates awareness on general topics like women’s health, and celebrities often grace the hot seat to talk on topics like breastfeeding, body shaming, etc. 

Thapar was also one of the judges of season one of Shark Tank India. She will also be seen in the second season. The businesswoman completed her Master of Business Administration degree (M.B.A) from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

3. Ghazal Alagh

Ghazal Alagh is the Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of a Gurugram-based company with her husband, Varun Alagh called Honasa Consumer, which is the parent company of renowned personal care brands like Ayuga, The Derma Co., Mamaearth, etc.

Hosana Consumers company became a unicorn in January 2022. The businesswoman’s journey started when she was struggling to find chemical-free products for her kid as he suffered from various allergies. It is during this time, she observed that there is a huge gap in the market as she could not find brands selling natural products

She bridged the gap by starting her own brand and claims to sell natural and safe products. In the 2021 fiscal year, the company profits crossed ₹250 million. In March 2022, the revenue of Honasa Consumer reached ₹10 billion making it one of the top personal care brands in India.
