Nasarawa Assembly to shut down private schools operating without due process
Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education has vowed to direct for the closure of all private schools that are operating without due process and substandard ones across the state.
This, the committee said, was to ensure that quality education is provided to the people of the state.
Hon Danladi Jatau, Chairman of the Committee stated this when the ministry of Education and that of Science and Technology appeared before the House committee on their 2023 budget assessment today in Lafia.
He said that the committee would ensure that the right things are done for the overall development of the education sector and the state at large.
According to him, the committee extended its invitation to the ministries in order to assess the ministries 2023 budget performance.
” As Mr Speaker has directed all the House standing committees to oversight Ministries, Departments and Agencies under them.
” We have appropriated funds to MDAs. You should tell us your ministries 2023 budget performance as well as grey areas.
” We are not here to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that the right thing is done by your ministries,” he said.
Hon Jatau said that the committee in no distance time would visit private schools in order to ensure that they are operating according to due process.
” This committee will visit private schools across the state and will not give room to anybody to establish school without following due process.
” How can one established a school/ schools without facilities, qualified teachers. We will order for the closure of any private school or schools without standard
” As this committee will ensure that quality education is provided in the state as no society will achieve meaningful progress without sound education,” he said.
Hon Jatau advised them to adhere strictly to budgetary provisions, frowning at over- spending in some economic codes without writing to the House for approval.
The lawmaker commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his passion in the education sector and called for its sustainance.
He also appreciated Gov. Sule for establishing the ministry of Science and Technology in the State considering the importance of science and technology in the society.
Earlier, Dr John Mamman, the Commissioner for Education appreciated the committee and the state government for their efforts in developing the education sector.
The commissioner assured of effective synergy and collaboration to take the education sector to the greater height
Hon Samuel Emgba, the Commissioner for Science and Technology appreciated Gov. Sule for establishing the ministry.
He said that no nation would achieve speedy progress and developmemt without technology.
The commissioner assured of his readiness to bring new innovation for the overall development of the sector.
Also appeared before the committee was the management of Isa Mustapha Agwai polytechnic, Lafia led by the Rector, Dr Justina Kotso.
The Committee Chairman, Hon Danladi Jatau commended the rector of the polytechnic for her efforts in taking the institution to the greater height.
He also urged the management of the institution to continue to work in unity irrespective of their affiliations.
Hon Jatau assured of the committee support to the Institution to succeed.
Dr Justina Kotso, the Rector of the Polytechnic appreciated the committee and House for prioritizing the development of the institution.
The Rector assured of her readiness to continue to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the staff and students.
She commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for giving adequate attention to the development of the institution.
Further appeared before the committee was the management of the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia led by the Acting Provost, Dr Peter Aboki where he lauded the committee for supporting the college to succeed.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Danaldi Jatau commended them for good presentation and called for its sustenance.
