2023 election outcome: Abia APC chieftain, Otuwe Kalu speaks on lawsuit against Obasi’s reelection

A stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress stalwart from Abia State, Hon Otuwe Oji Kalu, has bared his minds in ongoing adjudication of his lawsuits challenging the outcome of the recently-conducted 2023 state election in Abia by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
GLOBAL TIMES gathered Otuwe Kalu was also the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress during the concluded state house of assembly poll for Ohafia North Constituency emerged second place on conclusion of the exercise in Abia state by the national electoral commission.
He contested the Abia assembly seat election alongside with the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr Mandela Obasi who took the first place; the labour party candidate, Mkpa Oju Ndukwe came 3rd position,and Mr Oko Anya Ude of NNPP emerged fourth place, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer on conclusion of voting process and collations of the results of the polls.
Against the backdrops of recent outcome of the concluded state election for Ohafia north state constituency seat, Mr Otuwe Kalu, approached the court with a petition, seeking its declaratory order to upturn announcement of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Mr Mandela Obasi, citing irregularities.
He also asked the court to affirm him as duly-elected member of the eighth leadership of Abia State House of Assembly for ohafia north constituency seat, having won the poll with the majority number of votes casts as constitutionally stipulated.
Earlier, Otuwe Oji Kalu, while baring his mind in an interview with newsmen at the weekend in Umuahia, shortly after the adoption of final written court addresses of parties in his post-election suits by the Abia State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Kalu confided he will get justice against the irregularities that marred conduct of the concluded 2023 state house of assembly election held in all polling units across all the electoral wards in ohafia north constituency in Abia state.
He also insisted he garnered the highest number of votes and should be declared as the duly-elected member representing Ohafia north constituency in Abia house of assembly.
Kalu described the continued occupation of ohafia constituency seat in state assembly by the Peoples Democratic Party as unjust and unknown to the laws of the land having failed to tally with the present modern democratic standard and constitutionally-recognized quorum.
He also applauded members of the election tribunal for their openness and pro-activeness in ongoing adjudication of the post-election case in respect to his petitions, challenging the alleged electoral malpractices that occured during the concluded poll.
