We will continue negotiating with Government — ASUU President.

The Academic Staff Union of University Asuu, says, it will continue negotiating positive issues with government to ensure that quality education is provided in the Nigerian Universities.

The National President of the Association, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, stating this while addressing ASUU members at a Colloquium organized by the Nasarawa State University Keffi’s branch of the Association.

The Colloquium which drew the Academic Staff Union of the Universities from Abuja zone, which comprised University of Abuja, Federal University of technology Minna, Ibrahim Badamasi University, Lapai, Federal University of Lafia and Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who came together to brainstorm the grey issues concerning the association.

Speaking to members, the National President of ASUU, professor Emmanuel Osodeke, apart from disassociating ASUU from the students loan bill signed by president Bola Tinubu, said efforts are being made to ensure good working relationships with the government in a bid to project the image of the Nigerian Universities.

The ASUU president said, the Association is not discouraging by the decision of government and court oders concerning the arrears of their members, saying that they will allow the new government to settle down before any discussion on critical issues.

Presenting a paper on principles and workings of ASUU: Matters arising, the ASUU president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, maintained that ASUU has come a long way to become a formidable voice not only in seeking solutions to the problems of Nigerias public universities, but also in tackling the multidimensional problems of the society, and sued for good working relationships between the ASUU and management of the Universities as well as ssgovernment at all levels to enhance good productivity.

To professor Nasiru Fagge Isa, also a former National president of ASUU, spoke on curbing unethical conducts in the Nigerian University system, said Unethical practices taking place in the Universities, have forced the academic community to lose respect and dignity, stressing that due to the misconduct of some academics, the intellectual is fast losing credibility, honour and integrity, calling on lecturers to have a rethink.

Early, the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, and ASUU chairman of the University, Doctor Samuel Allu, said the event was put together in order to rob minds and educate lecturers on the need to be of good conduct in their quest of impacting knowledge to the students.
