NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a formal chargesheet against 12 people in connection with an incident in which armed CPI (Maoist) insurgents carried out an assault on security forces near Tiriya village in Chhattisgarh.

This attack resulted in the loss of six Maoist and one civilian life. The accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).

The investigations revealed that a faction of Maoist combatants, under the leadership of prominent Maoist figures, including Sanju, Lxman Nag, Dashri Kawasi, Dubasi Shankar, Jalimuri Srinu Babu, Vijayalaxmi, Ramesh Kunjami, and others, schemed to carry out this grave incident.

The assailants targeted combined units of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), State Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while they were involved in a search operation near Tiriya Village, Jagdalpur. During the attack, the assailants employed sophisticated weaponry.

The inquiry revealed that a group of Maoists, under the leadership of senior Maoist figures such as Sanju, Lxman Nag, Dashri Kawasi, Dubasi Shankar, Jalimuri Srinu Babu, Vijayalaxmi, Ramesh Kunjami, and others, plotted to execute this atrocious deed.

The attackers employed advanced weaponry in their assault on the joint teams conducting a search operation in the vicinity of Tiriya Village, Jagdalpur. These teams included members of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), State Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Furthermore, the investigation has led to the identification of additional people linked to the case, such as B.Ch. Padma, Dubasi Devender, Dongari Devendra, Duddu Prabhakar, and Kandula Sirisha. They were found to be affiliated with different organisations but were actively collaborating with the CPI (Maoist).

The accused, having strong affiliations with the senior leadership of the CPI (Maoist), played an active role in promoting the illegal and violent objectives of the outlawed group. They were pivotal in receiving financial support from the CPI (Maoist) to facilitate their activities, all the while operating under different front organisations to disseminate Maoist ideology.

The case was initially filed in 2019, and subsequently, the investigation was transferred to the NIA.
