NEW DELHI: The Central government has announced a hike in LPG subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per cylinder.

The decision was made at a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

The Cabinet also approved an additional 75 lakh LPG connections for women under the Ujjwala scheme, with a financial implication of Rs 1650 crore over the next three years.

In other announcements, the cabinet approved the establishment of a new Tribal Central University in Telangana, to be named Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University. The university will receive funding of Rs 889.07 crore.

The government also notified the establishment of a ‘National Turmeric Board’ to Boost Turmeric Exports and increase awareness and consumption of turmeric both domestically and internationally. The board will promote research and development into new products and develop on India’s traditional knowledge for value-added turmeric products.

The government has set an ambitious target to boost turmeric exports from the current Rs 1,600 crore to an impressive Rs 8,400 crore, with the aim of reaching US$ 1 Billion by 2030.

Finally, the Cabinet approved Terms of Reference to Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-II for adjudication of the historical water dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
