Rain-guard DSP for Lalu Guns with mafia, umbrella with cops for VIPS in Bihar, say critics

BIHAR: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank-cop of Bihar Police, who stretched an umbrella to indulge the visiting former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi — neither of whom hold any government positions in the state — has triggered a storm over the VIP culture at a time when murders have rocked the state.

Yadav, who has been prosecuted in Doranda treasury and fodder scam by the CBI court, was on a visit to Thawe temple on the national highway in his hometown Gopalganj. Barely three days ago, the CBI had opposed Lalu’s bail given to him by the Jharkhand high court in the Supreme Court

He was scheduled to depart for ancestral village when Dsp Anurag Kumar walked along with him and Devi for nearly a kilometre with an umbrella.

Neither Lalu nor Devi carried their own umbrellas.

Under-attack DSP Anurag Kumar shifted the blame on the district administration of Gopalganj, saying both district magistrate (DM) and superintendent of police (SP) had given him clear instruction to provide such security to the Yadav couple.

“I was stationed there with the police force but since it was raining, I chose to offer him umbrella services as part of the security measure,” Kumar said while defending his act.

Kumar is the son-in-law of a close Lalu aide Subhash Yadav, who runs contracts for sand mining in Bihar. Subhash had unsuccessfully contested for Lok Sabha elections from Chatra Lok Sabha in Jharkhand.

BJP state chief Samrat Choudhary, said it was shocking to see RJD leaders who once faced charges by even JDU supporters were being meted out extraordinary treatment to pursue their political careers.

“In the days to come, the SP and the collector will also be seen doing the same for such corrupt politicians. Nitish Kumar has compromised with corruption, communalism, and governance,” said Choudhary.

Former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi said that the irony has hit Bihar politics hard where “criminals are walking with weapons in hand while cops holding umbrellas for VVIPS”.

“Less than two days ago, a journalist was murdered by a mafia and no politician by RJD or JDU visited Araria,”
