‘Bricks, rods & guns’: Cops recount how Nuh mob killed 2 home guards

NUH (HARYANA): Stones, bricks and big boulders rained on Haryana home guards Neeraj Khan and Gurusewak’s team and they were beaten with sticks and iron rods by a frenzied mob in Nuh on the fateful day of July 31.

The attack was so brutal that Neeraj and Gurusewak succumbed to injuries while being rushed to a hospital. Five of their seniors somehow survived the mob assault, which followed an attack on a Hindu procession, and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram.

The FIR registered by them has revealed the degree of brutality of the attack on the Police team, comprising a Kherki Daula Police Station in charge Ajay Kumar, two sub inspectors, and a head constable and a constable.

According to the FIR accessed by The New Indian, their official vehicle came under heavy attack from different directions in front of the Anaj Mandi near the Cyber Police Station in Nuh.

Several police teams, headed by the Manesar deputy commissioner of police (DCP), along with a quick response team were sent to Nuh to assist their colleagues to control one of the deadliest communal flare-ups in India this summer.

“In front of the Anaj Mandi, a huge mob blocked our way and started pelting stones at us. They were carrying lethal weapons. They also fired at us with an intention to kill us. My vehicle hit a huge boulder placed on the road and overturned,” station in-charge Ajay Kumar recounts in his complaint.

It further reads, “They brutally beat up policemen with sticks and iron rods and snatched our phones and wallets. The police party had to open fire in self defence.”

Later, the policemen arranged a vehicle and sent the two home guards to a hospital in Gurugram where they were declared brought dead.

On this complaint, the police have registered a case against unknown persons under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (common goal of offenders), 186 (obstructing in duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 342 (wrongful confinement), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 353 (assault to deter public servant from duty) of the IPC.

The charges also include sections 379B (snatching), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the IPC and section 25 of the Arms Act.

The New Indian visited Neeraj Khan’s home in Gadhi Bazdipur village to find his widow and their two children staring at an uncertain future. “I worked as a soldier during my posting at Kargil and snatched posts from Pakistan. But today, I have lost my own son to internal clashes with our own,” his father Chiranji Lal lamented.

Neeraj’s family boasts of 17 such men who, at different stages, have worked for the Indian Army.
