Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s troops inflicted heavy damage to federal vessels and troops at Eastport, Mississippi on the Tennessee River.

- 1845 – The United States Naval Academy opened in Annapolis, Maryland.

- 1971 – Ater being sold, dismantled and moved to the United States, the London Bridge reopened in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
